Glass - Conservatory Roofs

Roof Glass ImageMany people prefer to pay a little more for the traditional looks and clarity of glass for conservatory roofs. It can match your walls and provide increased sound insulation. The glass can be toughened or laminated and is available in a range of thermally efficient, self-cleaning, reduced glare and solar control (anti-heat build up) combinations.

Choosing the right high performance roof glass for any conservatory installation is the most important element to ensuring that a conservatory space can be utilised thoughout the year. The main things to consider are location, temperature control, maintenance, aesthetics and durability. The Ambience Range available from Legacy Windows covers all of these factors.

Self Cleaning Glass:

A coating that reacts with UV rays in sunlight to generate a photocatalytic process, that loosens and breaks down organic dirt particles on the outside surface of the glass. Coupled with the surface of the coating being hydrophilic, therefore instead fo forming droplets, its attracts the water so that it spreads and forms a thin film that sheets away quickly. This also dries quickly without leaving unsightly drying spots. Self cleaning glass leaves less dirt and grime adhering to the glass resulting in the glass staying cleaner for longer, meaning less maintenance is required.

Centre Pane U-Value (W/m2K):

A measure of air-to-air heat transmission due to thermal conductance, and the differance between interior and exterior temperatures. As the u-value decreases, so does the amount of heat that is transferred through the glazing material. Thus, the lower the u-value, the more restrictive the fenestration product is to heat transfer. All of our glass units used for conservatory rooofs have a minimum centre pane u-value of 1.2W/m2K, which is the optimum balance between performance and cost.

Solar Factor:

As its name suggests, solar control glass helps regulate and control the amount of solar energy that enters a building or conservatory. Solar control glass saves money by reducing the amount of energy used by air conditioning systems, and therefore boosts comfort levels inside a building, by controlling indoor temperatures and ambient light levels, ie the solar glare.

Light Transmissions:

The measurement of light passing through glass. Too much light can create an uncomfortable or unbearable living environment, with glare becoming a particular problem, in contrast insufficient light can result in reduced visibilty, again a finely balanced compromise has to be reached. Legacy have various glazing options which cover the spectrum of choice.

All of our roof glass units are of the highest quality and are manufactured in accordance with EN 1279-2-3.
